§ 14-39. Impoundment of vehicles.

  • The city may immediately remove a vehicle from public property or any other place open to the public and impound the vehicle if the owner of the vehicle has failed to answer six (6) or more parking violation notices or citations regarding illegal parking. Upon impoundment of a vehicle under this section, the rights and duties of both the city and the vehicle owner shall be as prescribed in Section 2.5 of the Uniform Traffic Code, except that in order to obtain release of the vehicle, the owner must not only pay the accrued damages to the custodian of the vehicle, but must also appear before the traffic violations bureau and either post a bond of five hundred dollars ($500.00) or pay all amounts due on all unanswered parking violation notices or citations that have been issued to the owner.
