§ 2-17. Local officers compensation commission.

  • (a)

    Pursuant to the provisions of Public Act No. 8 of 1972, State of Michigan, a local officers compensation commission is hereby established which shall determine the salaries of all local elected officials.

    (b)

    The mayor shall appoint a five-member local officers compensation commission. Members shall be registered electors of the city, and shall be appointed by the mayor subject to confirmation by a majority of the council members elected and serving. In the case of the commission first appointed, the member first appointed shall serve one (1) year, second appointed two (2) years, etc., until the fifth appointed, serving a five-year term. Thereafter, a member shall be appointed annually for a five-year term. All first members shall be appointed within thirty (30) days after the effective date of this section. No member or employee of the legislative, judicial or executive branch of any level of government or members of the immediate family of such member or employee shall be eligible to be a member of the commission.

    (c)

    The local officers compensation commission shall have the powers and duties as set forth by Act No. 8, P.A. 1972.

    (d)

    The local officers compensation commission shall serve without salary, but shall be entitled to actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
